My sister-in-law asked me to Reiki her brother-in-law with her. He had been in a coma for 11 days in ICU after a devastating highway motor cycle accident in which he and his motorcycle went straight off a curved road, he somersalted a couple of times, when he landed he slammed his head and back on the hard ground.
While we went in to Reiki, his family sat in the waiting room. Knowing we were intruding on a man who didn't ask us to Reiki him, we averted our eyes as much possible during the treatment to give him the highest level of privacy while giving a proper treatment to the areas most needing Reiki.
We started at the top of his head and worked down his body. We felt incredible heat and energy release in the areas of bruising and broken bones.
When we got to his feet I said, "Elaine, I really feel like we need to ground him into his body." We reached up above his head, grabbed the energy and pulled it down into his feet, holding it there for a moment, repeating the process a few times.
"Elaine." We looked out in the corridor to see who was calling. "Elaine". We looked at the man's face, he was looking at Elaine with his eyes open, then he said, "I gotta take a dump".
Elaine told him he had been in an accident, he was in the hospital, we were doing Reiki, and she'd call the nurse to attend to him. She pressed the call button, we finished his treatment in lightening speed and high-tailed it out of the room!
The doctors reassessed him in his newfound conscious state, when they gave the all clear, his family went in to see him. About five minutes later his wife burst into the waiting room with tears running down her face, I thought, "Oh Lord! What did we do?"
Elaine jumped up asking, "What happened?"
"He's talking! This is a miracle! What did you guys do?"
Always the skeptic, I said, "Well, maybe it was his time to wake up."
"How much proof do you need? He's been in a coma for 11 days, you guys did Reiki and now he is conscious and he's talking to us, that is a miracle!"
He moved quickly out of ICU and home. When he talked about his experience, he reported that when he was in a coma he saw the layout of the waiting room and knew where people were sitting (he was never in that room before or after his accident, it had a weird configuration, a side room, that he described. He couldn't have known this unless he saw it). His experience coincides with other people's descriptions of "out of body" experiences when they are unconscious.
The last thing he remembered was being loaded into the airlift, the first thing he remembered was he had been airlifted to a foreign country where Elaine and I were doing voodoo-Reiki on him!--we eventually forgave him for referring to Reiki as Voodoo!
