Dehydration

After drinking 4 cups of water I thought I'd float like a boat into my ultrasound appointment. I laid on the table, the technician applied the gel, put the tool to my abdomen and told me I didn't have enough fluid in my system to create pictures. Where did the pail of water I drank go?

The technician explained that I was so dehydrated that my cells slurped the water like an empty gas tank.

Huh? How could my body absorb 4 cups of water in less than an hour?

Come to think of it, the previous day I began drinking an XL triple-triple coffee at 8 a.m.and finished it at 7:30 p.m. I ate one meal at 7:30 p.m. with a couple--okay who's counting?--four chocolate chip cookies. And I sank into my lazy-boy rocker exhausted.

After another 16 ounces of water, my ultrasound resumed. It was a valuable demonstration of how much depletion occurs at the cell level when a person's body is depleted of essential components.

Scientifically measuring the impact one day of distraction had on the internal workings of my body has resulted in a renewed commitment to watering, feeding and nourishing my body, mind and spirit on a moment to moment basis.

What's your story?
